Note #14: Dwarves

The Dwarves

One of the original races of Thraindhne, the Dwarves, the Durzihn ( the children of Durzil) have a noble and long history. It is said that the first Dwarves where carved from Iron rich stone. This may be true since most Dwarves have a high level of iron in their blood. It is a common misconception that lady Dwarves grow beard. They do have facial hair but only sideburns, which some chose to shave.

The Dwarven people are known to be stead fast, honorable, and full of pride. In the old days most dwarves lived in the mountains. They carved out great citadels in the rock, in which they spent most of their lives. Some Dwarves would go out and trade for food and gold, but contact was not common.

The conception of Dwarves at that time did not fit all of that kind. This was a time when the Dwarven people split into their different types. The first are where the Mountain Dwarves (Durz-Auron). They are the steriotypical dwarves, strong, prideful, and lived in the mountains.

The cousin the Hill Dwarves (Durz-Teramik ) are very similar. Shorter, resilient, and wiser then their mountain cousins, the Durz-Teramik usually mad small villages on the hill tops, with giant mines bellow them. They usually where traders for the mountain Dwarves.

The Water Dwarves (Durz-Aqithz) were evern more common among people. They left the mountains and took up living on the sea. They are famous explorer, traders, and swimmers. They are the founders of many distant Dwarven kingdoms, such as Vilimer.

The Dark Dwarves (Durz-Zentur) are the strange cousin in the dwarven family. They live in the Deep Dark and have taken up raiding and slaving as their main income. They are almost blind and are as grey as stone. Dark dwarves are very rare to find above ground.

Most dwarves live to be about 500 years old.

Note #13: the Deep Dark

The Deep Dark

The Deep dark is the hidden under world of Thraindhne. The Deep Dark, as it is now called, was created long ago during the time of the Dwarven Empires. As the kingdoms grew and became stronger they created safe trade routs to other cities by under ground tunnels.

As the number of tunnel increased over the years more and more ground was opened up. Tunnel interesced and where broken into by mine shafts. some collapsed and where fixed or abandoned, while others broke into caverns. Underground kingdoms started to form, with taverns and houses. These created a maze of tunnels.

When the Dwarven empires fell much of the Deep Dark was abandoned. Only the Dark Dwarves remained there digging deeper. The Deep Dark has also been invaded by many other creatures, goblins, dragons, and more.

If you wish to enter the Deep Dark, it is said, that all you need to do is find a Dwarven building. It is said that every Dwarven mine, city, keep, or building has an entrance to the Deep dark, whether it was intentional or accidental. Legend also says that the Deep Dark goes so deep that some tunnel fall out of the world.

Note #12: The kingdom of Oxlend

The of Kingdom of of Oxlend

The country of Oxlend is decently large country bordered by Stönver, Ioda, Vilimer, and Amer Shore. It is a very industrialised Tyranny run by Elahn Vilner. The land is shunned by most kingdoms, especially elven ones, in the world for their aggressiveness and destructive nature. They have however managed to form a strong alliance with the Tyrant of Amer Shore

The land around Oxlend is very industrialised. Most forest have been chopped down and the land has been stripped of almost all minerals  and fertility, leaving the land flat, dead, and dry. Story #6: the tale of Mael Íosa

Mael'Íosa

The ship was nearing Ioda. The outskirts of the city could be seen breaking through the horizon. captain Redman was at the wheel, turning the ship towards the city. He looked down at Weldon and smiled, "Well lad, we'll be coming into port soon. As arranged I'll wait at the docks until your done."

"Yes captain." Weldon replies. He starts stuffing all of his equipment, which was laying on a barrel, into his bag.

"But before you go," The captain says, "Why not tell me another of you stories"

"Well," Weldon replied, swinging his bag on, "Your tale of Bolbi in Fa'guendi reminded me of a very good one. It all started with a cookie"

________________________________________________________________________________

This story takes place a long time ago, during the age of the Weslory Empire. During there many conquests they had taken the land known as Fa'guendi. Or that was what they claimed. They had conquered almost all of the island but they hadn't taken the north. As the Empire had started it's conquest of the Island the Ceihlin and Picsain had moved northward.

This compression of tribes formed two very important things. First of all if created lots of fighting. The clans where always at each other necks, allowing for the empire, an Kunhav, to take away more land. But it also created a group of people so strong and brave that they could fight mountains and win.

One of these clans, the Laidn'led, lived on the Weslory boarder. The chief of the Clan formed a bond with the Weslorian people. One day his five year old daughter, Mael'Íosa, made cookies for the Weslorian General. They were not the worlds best cookies but they weren't horrible. They were here favorite kind of cookies, Cranberry and oat.

But when the General eat it he fell over dead. Now it was later found out that he had a very sever allergy to cranberries. But that was not known at the time. This little incident lead to a full scale assault of the Norther tribes by the Weslory, on the grounds of an assassination. This lasted for a week, in which the Laidn'led clan was almost wiped out and the Wesley Boarder advanced by 50 km.

Of those that escaped to slaughtering of the Laidn'led moved north. Of these people Mael'Íosa was one of them. She moved into the Itreach Clan, but she harbored hatred for the Weslory. Hatred for the destruction of her clan and hatred for that General's nerve to die from her cookie.

This fueled so much hate that eventually, twenty years later, she decided to deal with it. She decided to go and unite the clans and to fight back against the Empire. She rallied an army of 20 clans from the Ceihlin and Picsain people. A force of over 100 000 men strong armed to the teeth.

With this band of warriors Mael'Íosa started raids. They raided the Weslory boarder forcing them back. They seemed unstoppable, until the battle of Raebuhdhilld. An army of over 100 000 Fa'guendi men and women, fighting for their freedom, against 25 000 heavily armed Weslory Troops. It was a battle to remember.

It is said on this day Mael'Íosa, clad in Tartan and bronze armor, said a great speech on her war chariot before the battle. It is said to have been one of the greatest ever spoken. Many marvel at it and consider it one of the greatest creations in all of history. It is said that if it was written out the speech would be ten pages long, but it is best summarized by this famous quote, "We come feuding families, warring clans, and rivaling people. We are a people who hate each other but we stand against a  greater evil. Divided we may be we both wish to not be under the control of others, and so we will fight today. For FREEDOM!!!!!"

The battle lasted half an hour and in the end Mael'Íosa lost. Her army was divided and destroyed. She had barely made it out alive front he fight. Of the 100 000 warrior only 2 000 left alive. It is said that the grass on the site of the battle grows red from the blood of these warriors.

What became of Mael'Íosa, many ask? It is known that she led other unsuccessful rebellions against the Empire. Besides that it is not known what her fate was. This rebellion, although unsuccessful, is said to be the cause of the Weslory empires fall. This act against the Empire inspired others. Although she herself didn't win the war, Mael'Íosa eventually won.

welcome to Thraindhne

Ok so it's time to name the world! As many of you know I have been using the Dhoubnom as the world name. However that is going to change. Welcome to the newly named land of Thraindhne. Now it's time to look at the history behind the name.

Thrain dieln ehf was the old celestial name for the world of humans, dwarves, and halflings. The name moved on and It became known as Thraindlen. When the the elves came and expanded though out the world they named it Thraindlen Lohne. Over time the name has shortened to Thraindhne which is in use today.

Weldon's journal Part 1

Weldon's Journal Part 1

What is it?

Weldon's Journal is where I go over quickly where Weldon has been. It's nothing really fancy but if you want to start to map out his trail this is where you want to be. In the stories I am skipping parts of hist story where has travelled to other places.

Journal Part 1

  1. Crystal Library
  2. Sent message to captain Harold Redman
  3. Walks to the independent village of Redshoe to meet the captain
  4. Taken by coach to Hero's Reach
  5. Sails to the city of Ioda

Note #11 : Minor Gods

Minor Gods

As we have already seen in the last story the gods have a group of underneath them called the Minor gods. These are children of Gods or Primordials, or weaker champions. These beings have done many things. The World Giants are minor gods, and so is the creator of goblins. Although they are not as powerful as the Gods and Dark Lords, most minor gods are widely worshipped around the world.

Being minor god has advantages to being a God. There are a set number of Dark Lords and Gods but no limits on the number of minor gods. Most are ether creators of minor races or the patron god (e.g Patron god of sailors). the Sun and Moon of each world is a minor god, so is the great beast of destruction created by the Dark Lords. Basically anyone who is stronger than a celestial but not a god is usually considered a Minor god.

A list of some of the important Minor gods will be in a different post.

25th Post - Note #10: New Haven

New Haven

Capital: New Haven
Leader: Ol'ven Grenleaf III
Government type: Constitutional Monarchy City state

New Haven is a city state positioned at in at the Two Tower pass. It is located along the major land road to the East, through the Wild Lands. It was the first part of land to leave the Weslory Empire. The land was actually granted to General Aedd Grenleaf. It was established as a neutral territory for negotiations in the crumbling empire. The original City was named Haven, it was destroyed 65 years ago in a great battle. Stories say that none escaped the burning city alive except for the young lord Ol'ven Grenleaf III, who had sneaked away from home that night to explore the world. 15 years after the destruction Ol'ven rebuild the city on top of the ruins on Haven. That city is what is now known as New Haven.

The land of New Haven is rich in history of battles and ruins. Many have tried to hold the pass, but few can keep their control on it. The city is flanked by two twin towers on the agacent mountain sides. These protect the city and warn them of invaders.

The land is rocky and covered in little dirt, except for near the river beds, where the soil is extremely fertile. Around the city are small oak, birch, and maple forests. There are a number of majestic waterfalls in the area as well.

The City state of New Haven has claimed much land around its self, giving rise to some small hamlets and villages under the cities control. The current city leader in Ol'ven Grenleaf III. He is a half elf. He is only 81 years old now, which is almost middle aged for a half elf. He is Lord of the city however the city is run by an elected lord mayor and elected council. Almost every country holds and embassy in New Haven. The city is also very multi racial and is considered by most the most diverse city. It is also has the largest half elven population in the world, and is considered by some the only half elven country.

story #5: Creation of the World Part 3

The Creation of the World Part 3
The End

The knowledge of Dheunos' champion spread through the Primordials. Other Deities became enraged by this. If he could chose his own why could they not. A league of Primordials decided to make their own champions. they became known as the Dark lords. These are...

  • Demogorgon, lord of Demons
  • Archakinz, lord of Devils
  • Ulomon, lord of the deep
  • Neroes, lord of undeath
  • Yinei, lord of thieves
  • Salvahsn, lord of monsters
  • Triton, lord of murder
  • Menily, lord of tyrants
  • Katren, lord of disease

When this was noticed by the other Primordials they also began to chose champions. These ones gained less power though and formed a new class of gods, the minor gods. As the number of gods started to rise there became a struggle for power. Some favored the Dark gods and others Favored the current Gods. This lead to the Great Civil War. Celestials fought Celestials, Primordials Fought Primordials. Many died in the greatest blood shed ever known. Eventually the Dark gods got despite, they had been pushed under ground. They decided to create a creature of no alignment. It's only purpose was to destroy, and this was their mistake.

As the creature was set free to destroy their enemies it turned on the Dark gods. It began destroying all that was left of their base. They tried to stop the beast with no success. Eventually they had no choice but to plead with the gods for help. They agreed on a surrender for the help of the Gods.

This alliance of enemies formed a force so powerful it was able to stop the beast. The Gods decided to trap the beast under a new world. This land they gave to the people of Corheln (Elves), Zelnfix (Gnomes), and Dracion (Dragons). They then placed this world bellow 2 others. One went to the people of Alme (Humans), Yivenah (Halflings), and Durzil (Dwarves) . And the other to Gralphe (Quazin), Jölnhilda (Giants), and Box'b (Orcs). Bellow these worlds they formed another, the Dark World. This realm became the kingdom and prison of the Dark Lords and their people. These worlds are all held up by the four meta elemental giants, Norte (Ice), Sorte (Lava), Iestein (Sludge), and Oestien (Ash). Their feet stand on the boarders of the quadrants of the elemental chaos. Above all of this sits the realm of the Celestials and then the world of the Primordials. And so the world was formed.

Play test #1: The Black Tower and the 3 Heroes

The Black Tower and the 3 Heroes

Today we play tested the world. We played with a party of 3 adventurers, Aust (A Paladin of Time), Lark (A bard with two personalities), and Aqua (A Ranger hero of the town of Johrn. Once called Ruby but he changed his name.). Oh yes and lets not forget Storm, Aqua's faithful wolf companion.

Together they formed an adventuring party which they eventually called the 3 Heroes. On a quest to save the town of Johrn, in the Duchy of Boars Head, they took over the old keep called the Black Tower. With the riches found inside they renovated it and built a base around it. The tower was renamed The Tower of the 3 Heroes (Not very creative though).

For the D&D session I was the DM and the party consisted of by brother, Ian and two of my friends, Sebi and Cameron. I used the Module known as the Black Tower found at :  https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/2xd9ei/5th_edition_a_free_adventure_for_3rdlevel/.

Notes:

  • The Town of Johrn
    • Mayor Shawn was put in power by Aqua to replace a tirrant
    • Sandy runs the Giants Foot Inn
    • The greatest mason in Boars Head, Mason Brickbeard the Mason, once lived there. Now He has a shop in North hold.
    • North of the city is the Frostfell Swamp
      • Recently drained
      • It has the Tower of the 3 Heroes to the north
  • New Haven has a bard college

Story #4: Bobli Pirate's story

Forty or so years back is when our story begins. The Giant Sea has seen a decrease in raider activity, however one remains strong. His Name is Bolbi Pirate, an ancient dwarven raider, commander of a ten ship fleet, and the scourge of one sea. He basically controls the Giant Sea, raiding those he doesn't like and leting boats pass of those who pay him.

Although he is so powerful, most of the other raiders despise him. They considered him a cheat and thief, Taking more loot then need his fair share. Finally they snapped, a viscous frost Giant raider, Thura Frostbeard, decided he would destroy Bolbis monopoly once and for all. He set out to make an armada of raiders to free the Giant Sea of Bolbi.

Meanwhile, in his tiny island, Bobli's crew was holding a feast. All was well until the feats ended and the local Watcher visited Bolbi. she put her hand on his shoulder and said, "I have bad news captain. I had a vision during the feast, a black cat said to me, ' In a Week your captain will die if he can not defend himself. Seak the sith as your only hope.' Sir, this sounds horrible!"

Bolbi smiled, "They buggers wull hae tae watch thair backs. Ah thnk ah ken whaur we kin fin' this sith ye speak o'. Git th' crew duin tae sail, we're aff tae Fa'guendi!"

And so Bolbi set forth for the island of Fa'guendi. When his crew landed he got them to hike in land. He turned to talk to his crew.

"Whaur keekin fur a black ... cat! Wi' a white dot oan tis chest. Shuid be aboot th' size o' a dug. A'richt?"

"Ai Captian!" His crew cheered.

"Guid noo lets git gaun!"

They hiked into the highlands, trying to avoid Kunhav settlements. Rumor was that they had joined Thura's quest to kill Bolbi. After two days there had still been no sightings. Then just twenty miles from the Ceihlic city of Malapit the young scout, Felna Swiftfoot, died of exhaustion. With much sorrow they set up camp and buried her body. People started saying that this quest was fruitless and that they should abandon all hope. Then he saw it.

Up on the closest Eastern hill sat a large black cat, with a white spot on it's chest. He turned to his crew and said he was going to hunt some food. He then headed to the top of the hill, trying to stay out of the cats sight. As he was just feet away the cat spoke.

"Honor to meet you Mr. Pirate. I assume you wish to speak to me."

"Howfur th'! whit th'! howfur did ye!" He spluttered in surprise.

"I'm a cat. One does not simply sneak up on us."

Regaining his composier Bobli said, "Noo keek 'ere. Ah wis tellt that ah wis goign tae die 'n' tae blether tae ye tae save me. Sae a'm needin' saving fae dieing against an airmie, 'n' advice Mr. Sith?"

"Thee things," The Cat Sith purred, "One, I'm a big fan of yours and I would hate to see you die. Secondly, I work for Mr. Death, ya see. Well, he doesn't like being cheated, so I can't help you. And finally, call me Tom"

"Weel Tom, keek 'ere. A'm flattered 'n' a', bit ye better bloody weel hulp me or ye'r ne'er gonnae see anither dish o' moggie nip." And with that he drew his sword, Swash, and placed it against Tom's kneck. "Noo whit dae ye say tae that king o' cats?"

"Fine I'll help you. Wouldn't want to add The anger of Death to your list of enemies would we. Well best I can do is say that you need about one hundred of so baby teeth. Then plant them on Mariner's rock in two days time."

Bolbi was aghast, "Baby teeth?"

"Yep"

"Howfur th' boody hell's that gona hulp me!?"

"Make of it what you will. It's the best I've got."

"Ah fine!" With that Bolbi lowered his sword and Tom darted away. He marched his way down to the crew and said, "Ah fun th' dam sith. Noo lets gang hunting fur baby teeth!"

This lead to what many called The Tooth raids. Many small children knocked out their own teeth for some good coin. Soon enough they had over two hundred. Bobli then sailed out to Mariner's rock and planted the teeth. He then waited. And waited. And waited. Then at midnight the light of the full moon fell on the rock and there was a woosh.

Skeletal hands started to crawl out of the stone. Soon there was an army of skeletons in front of them. Bolbi turned to his first main, who had stayed with him, and whispered with a grin on his face, "Send word tae Thura that weel rammy at dawn th'morra. Ok?"

"Yes sir." He replied also smiling.

The morning came and the ships where ready, a fleet of ten verses that of hundreds. His first mate turned to him, less happy then last night.

"Sir where's the secret weapons?"

"Och thare 'ere. Noo charge in wi' heavy fire."

"Yes Sir!"

And so the battle began. Ballistas blasted and swords clashed. Bolbi's fleet separated and circled the armada, firing inwards. However things where not looking up. After a few minutes they had already lost four ships.

"Where are the Dame Skeletons sir!" Yells the first mate over the clamor.

"Right there" Smiles Bolbi, pointing to the clump of enemy ships.

There was suddenly a commotion coming from the enemy flag ship. The crew looked and saw the skeletons ripping the ships to shreds.

"Bring up in closer sae we kin jyne in th' fray!"

"Yes Sir!"

As Bolbi's flag ship moved in he could see Thura, fighting off ten skeletons. Bolbi grabbed a rope and jumped in front tog the Giant. He swung Swash once as he descended, chopping of the Giants head. It landed in front of his feet. He spat on it's forehead and yelled, "Ye glaikit bas! ye cuid hae chosen ony sea, bit ye hud tae chose mines eh?! ah wid hae be deid afore ye even git a grey locks!!"

The fight end with Bobli being victorious. The skeletons, having done there job, turned back into teeth on board Bolbi's ship. The teeth are said to prolong life, and where sold off by most of the crew. Bolbi kept one for himself and got a tattoo of a black cat, as a reminder of how he almost got over thrown by and upstart frost giant.

The scribe's eyes where wide. "That was an amazing tale. I must write it down for my book. where did you learn it?"

"I hear it from Ol'ven Grenleaf, years back in the Wild Rabbit Inn."

"Wait, the Ol'ven Grenleaf?!"

"Yep that fella. Very nice guy, it was before he became famous."

The ship rocked from side to side.

"Wow. Well, where about are we Captain."

The Carter, also captian of the ship captain, looked though his telescope.

"I'd recon we're near the south of Vilimer. Now how about continuing your story?"

However some abstained from chosing a champion. Dheunos was one of these. He watched as the rest put some of there powers in others and them thought to himself. "There is a problem. They have only chosen eight. If these gods are divided there could be deadlock"

Dheunos decided to have a champion of his own. He found a young man named Alme. He came up to him an said to him, "I lack a champion, do you wish to walk among the gods?"

Alme looks at him in aw. A nervously replies "Yes, I would. But there are already eight gods"

With a smile Dheunos replies with his arms outstretched, "Then be the ninth god!!" Some of his energy left his body and enters Alme's body.

Then a sound broke the silence and another beam of energy entered Alme. There was a moment of stillness then a figure appears between the two men. She smiles and says "I Noinos return and I chose you Alme to be my champion as well."

Dheunos and Alme where so shocked that they could not speak before she looked at Dheunos said, "Hello my son, you are looking very nice. Say hello to your sister for me" And then she disappeared in a blast of shining light.

From this point on there where nine gods. Each one created one of the major world races. They each chose eight minor gods to work from their followers.

"Well that was anti climactic" Says the Driver as they pull into the docks.

"What makes you say that?"

"It just that she shows up, says hi, and then leave. It's just...I expected more." He shrugs, "Anyway we need to unpack and get everything loaded on the ship. Then you can take a break from your story and I'll tell you of one of Bolbi pirates many adventure"

Note #5: The Elves

Elves

The main race of Corheln where the elves. Of these he made 2 ranks. The Ahnil and the Ahnil'Eland. The Ahnil'Eland ruled the Elven lands. They had pale, beautiful skin and their eyes shone with great knowledge. They lived to be about five thousand year old, over five times that of the Ahnil.

The Ahnil were a beautiful people and one with nature. They could talk to some animals and where very skilled in the art of Magic. They favored art and culture over tradition and where skilled craft men in jeweling.

They lived in the land that they now call Shalfnah Lohne. When great turmoil and terror struck the elves opened portals using magic to the world. However no all came. There is a great tale behind this involving two Ahnil'Eland brothers and the king of elves. When the king died and the rest of the Ahnil'Eland retreated from the world the brother fought over what to do, almost leading to civil war. In the end one lead bands of elves through the portals into the world. The other held fast against the terror with an army of skilled warrior, in an attempt to save their world.

This broke the Elven people into two rivaling groups, the Ahnil'Shalfnah (Dark elves) and Ahnil'Luma (The light elves). Although light elves do not hate their kindred, the Dark elves blame the Ahnil'Luma for abandoning them to fight alone.

However the dividing was not done, as the Light elves had taken many portal to the world. Not all of them lead to the same location. Those who ended up on islands became great swimmers and sailors. These elves became known as the Ahnil'Nutin (Sea Elves). The elves that ended up in small group in the wilderness became great hunters and trackers. The became friends with animals and lived up in the trees in the forests. These became known as the Ahnil'Slyvie (Wild Elves). The elves who stayed with the Brother or settled grand cities where called Ahnil'Celesa (High Elves).

Hero's Reach and Highfold

Hero's Reach

Population: 730
Leader: The Hero Council
Main exports: Heroes, magic items
Main Imports: Heroes, weapons, money

Hero's reach is a settlement on the coast of the Red Sand Sea. Founded by the three bards, the city is a safe haven for all adventurers and has a large amount of inns and stores. With a very low permanent population, most people in the city are ether passing through or using it as a base camp.

Highfold

Population: 1010

Main exports: Salt, iron, Furs
Main Imports: Food, sheep, iron

Highfold is the most populated norther port. It is located on the Giant's sea and is the largest exporter of salt. Although considered an independent state, Highfold is pupated by Ioda. It's name originates from it's location on top of a large fold in granite cliff. The salt is mined from within the cliff, with now has over ten mines in it.
